Abstract:

Based a set of SPH cosmological simulations, we present theoretical models of intergalactic dust distribution revealed by SDSS galaxy-quasar correlation studies. Our primary model uses a simulation with galactic outflows and assumes that dust traces the intergalactic metals. To reproduce the observational data, it requires a dust-to-metal mass ratio of 0.24, about half the value in the Galactic ISM. We also examine a simulation without outflows, and propose several methods that can be tested against future observations. At last, we discuss the implications of a large scale distribution of diffuse cosmic dust for dust formation and survivals in intergalactic medium, and future supernova cosmology studies.
